Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique
that helps repair facial skin that shows signs of sun damage and
the effects of aging. It effectively reduces fine lines, crow's
feet, age spots, hyperpigmentation and acne scars, and stimluates
the production of skin cells and colagen. Microdermabrasion is
a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. It is safe for
all skin colors and types, and is excellent for skin that is sensitive
to chemical procedures.
Technique: Our Foils aesthetician uses
a wand-like device that works like a fine sandblaster to spray
tiny crystals onto the surface of the skin, mixing gentle abrasion
with suction to remove the outer layer of skin. It is a gently
abrasive, polishing procedure. Each treatment takes from 30 minutes
to an hour. There are virtually no side effects as a result of
this procedure - you can have microdermabrasion on your lunch
break and go back to work. It is not recommended to work out or
sweat immediately following treatment. Sunscreen must be used
after microdermabrasion. It is not recommended to go into the
sun for at least a week. A high-quality mask applied two to three
days after the procedure maximizes the benefits.
You will notice immediate results after only
one treatment, but as with other skin
rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed
to reduce or eliminate fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.
Five to 12 treatments are typically recommended, spaced from two
to three weeks apart. Maintenance of results requires periodic
repeat treatments after the initial regimen is completed.
*Microdermabrasion for scars is also available.
