Permanent hair straightening is a revolutionary procedure developed in Japan in 1975. It consists of retexturizing (commonly known as thermal reconditioning), a permanent straightener that uses natural ingredients, as well as a series of products that can be used with the retexturizing system or on their own.

Permanent hair straightening can be performed on all hair types without the damage usually associated with traditional chemical straighteners. In fact, the straightening aspects of the procedure were a secondary discovery (after all, in Japan where the system was developed, there isn't a great deal of need for hair straightening). At first, it was used solely as a reconditioning or retexturizing system that made hair healthier, smoother and shinier. But outside of Japan, it's the straightening aspect that has had everyone beating a path to the best hairdressers in town.

Industry experts are calling hair straightening the biggest evolutionary leap in hairdressing ever. The CHI system uses a natural mineral complex which emits a negative ionic - infrared and electromagnetic waves charge simultaneously, shattering water molecule clusters into micro-fine particles and keeping them apart, allowing the formula to easily penetrate the hair shaft. Hence the low chemical concentration is mild enough to apply with the bare hands. Only one formulation is needed to straighten all hair types - not three. This process restores the moisture balance of the hair, leaving it soft, smooth, shiny and straight. This is quite unlike traditional chemical strengtheners, which leave hair dry, brittle, damaged and only semi-straight.

1. They can be used on any hair type including African/American hair and hair that has been bleached, colored or chemically relaxed. When the procedure is performed by a certified technician who has completed the proper training, it is both safe and effective.

2. Hair dries pin straight after being wet and left to dry naturally.

The full transformation takes approximately 3½ to 4½ hours. Depending on how quickly your hair grows, the process will need to be retouched between two and four times per year.
